Neighbourhood

Located in the south east of the city, this area is dominated by the ancient Via Appia Antica and this apartment is only a short stroll from there. Known to the Romans as Regina viarum (Queen of roads) parts of the road date back to 312 BC and the road literally bleeds history as Spartacus and 600 of his rebel slaves were crucified here. Although it is the stand-out attraction, there are many more places of interest in the area such as the Basilica di San Sebastiano. Dating back to the IV century, the Basilica has an underground network of Catacombs stretching for 12 kilometres and is a real step back in time to the imperial days. Rent a bicycle for the day and visit the Mausoleo Di Cecilia, the Villa De Quintili, the Catacombe Di Santa Domitilla & the Chiesa Del Domine Quo Vadis. More than enough to keep you occupied in this most ancient part of the city.
